Installation Instructions (Read Carefully)

(1) Close all programs before installation.
(2) Click on the KnowledgeNoteBook_v305.exe installer and then click on Install.
(3) When installation is complete, wait for about a minute or a little bit longer, the screen may appear to freeze but it does not.
(a) It initially launches with IE browser and please wait for about 40 seconds and then close it.
(b) A Knowledge NoteBook (KN) icon should have been created on your desktop by now (It launches KN with Firefox).

Firefox is THE primary browser that this program supports while it would work with IE7/8 to some degree.

FAQ

Installation Issue
Error during installation:
*Error code: 4444 reg. Please contact us at support@knowledgenotebook.com.*
Solution:
Launch the following URL with Firefox, http://127.0.0.1:8600/KNB2/verifyAccessDB.cfm
It configures the system and brings up the main screen of the program.
Cause of problem:
We suspect excessive delay of some antivirus program on your computer.

Please know the difference bewtween new installation and update.
If you've never installed Knowledge NoteBook before of course you would download the new installer with a Download link. But if you have please NEVER download a newer installer and try to overwrite your existing Knowledge NoteBook program. Instead, download and run an Updater (no Updater as of Sept 5, 2010).

Online / Offline
First, this program can run either offline or online. If prompted with choice of [Work Offline] and [Try Again] select the latter.

Browser
The IE browser and Firefox browser has some differences in execution and rendering of web content. Firefox is THE primary browser that this program supports while it would work with IE7/8 as well to a large degree.

Cache (IE)
Set cache to "Every time I visit the webpage" for IE. Here's how to do it:

(a) Tools
(b) Internet Options
(c) General -> Settings (Browsing History Section)
(d) Check "Every time I visit the webpage" entry
(e) Click OK

Cache (Firefox)
Here's how to configure it properly:

(a) Type about:config at the URL box and proceed
(b) Look for browser.cache.check_doc_frequency and modify its value from 3 to 1 (right click)

Script Handlinig (IE) (Very Important!)
Disable script debugging for IE. Here's how to do it:

(a) Tools
(b) Internet Options
(c) Advanced -> Browsing
(d) Check the two "Disable script debugging" entries.
(e) Uncheck the "Display a notification about every script error" entry.
(f) Click Apply
(g) Click OK

Notes Display
With Firefox the entire content of a note is fully displayed. It is not by design of the application. But if you prefer this way of complete content view all at once then use Firefox for it.

Knowledge NoteBook Software Architecture:
1. Web server + Web Programming Engine. The web server is Resin and the web programming engine is called Railo from Railo Technologies in Switzerland. Both are open source.
2. Data Storage: Microsoft Access.
3. Knowledge NoteBook Application Core is written in Cold Fusion Language. (1MB)

Knowledge NoteBook comes with an MS Access database (but you don't need a copy of Access installed already).

The program's starting point is URL: http://127.0.0.1:8600/knb2/

Important: if your browser including Firefox complains about "Connection Failed" or "Offline Mode", go to File -> Work Offline (check it off) and try it again.

127.0.0.1 denotes your own computer and that tells you can use this software program without even connected to the Internet but you may want to connect to the net to utilize some wonderful online resources such as wikipedia interactively with notes later on while using this app.

Updates/feature enhancements would be provided at least once a month.

Known Bugs
The MORE function does not work well with Firefox.

Uninstall the Knowledge NoteBook
Go to C:\Program Files\Railo folder,
Click on railo-uninstall.exe file to start the uninstallation process.

Important Note:
If you have written quite a lot of notes already, go to C:\Program Files\Railo folder, copy or move the myTA917dbX.mdb Access database to a flash drive or somewhere else prior to un-installation. That database contains all your notes.
